PIURO
In the past Piuro was the most important village of the bottom part of Val Bregaglia. Since 1400 it was rich and industrious due to the extraction and processing of ollare stone as well as the commerce of silk with Europe. The village was destroyed in 1618 by a huge landslide.
The principle attractions are the Renaissance masterpiece Palazzo Vertemate Franchi, the Museo degli Scavi di Piuro (Excavations Museum) and the Cascate dell'Acquafraggia (waterfalls). |
